Caution Cans

When I was young a friend told me I drove like I owned the world. Today, no one under 85 will get in my car with me. My nephew tells me he’s seen dead people drive faster.

Caution has slowly crept into my life and calcified not only joints but spirit. I don’t know what happened to that girl who bought a blue volkswagen convertible off the showroom floor in San Francisco and drove by herself with the top down for five days to Palm Beach, Florida.

But, I do know that some days I rebel and try to get her back. On those days, usually stormy ones, big rain or big snow, I get in the car and take photographs while driving.

I particularly like orange cans at night in a storm.

On those days, not even 85 year olds will drive with me.

  1. Thanks, Anna, for taking the time to comment. If you see that girl in a blue volkswagen convertible driving by–wave, would you? Tell her to phone home.
