Dinner With Friends I’ve Never Met -#4

Ok. Now what?

I’ve got the paints. 26 dollars later for five tubes. Cough. Cough. Choke. Anything for BonnieL. Gasp.

My tomatoes are in. Good thing. I can’t afford store groceries till next week.

What’s in these paints anyway?

Rare Truffles?

Jesus. 26 dollars.

Okay. I’m over it.

Now, blank canvas.

I just put on a beret to help my confidence.

PS. People, BonnieLuria is a painter for real. She inspires people to think they can do things they’ve never done before, too. Go and visit but be forewarned. All of sudden you might feel like…well, swimming in a 3000 foot Atlantic tidal pool, for instance, even though you are afraid of depths, heights, and everything inbetween.

  1. When I hit it big, I’m planning on commissioning Bonnie to paint me one of those elegant self-portraits so’s I can hang it in the anteroom of my castle.

    Exquisite work . . .

  2. First, we sit down to eat- mango, roasted beets, arugula, ( think color here, so you can use your new paints ), and yes, we need a neutral- fish!
They’re sufficiently grey after cooking- add a nice balance to the ROYGBIV of the appetizer/salad platter.

Now we can all stare at the blank canvas and suffer the same freaked out indecision that I face every time I start a new painting.
Now we can really be in synch, Pat. Thanks so much for giving me an official debut on your amazing site.

No, really, bully for you that you bought paints. I’d be at the front of the congratulatory line to encourage you to lay it down with the same abandon and elan you post with.

Then, everybody into the water ( after feeding leftover table scraps to the two pooches- the one who begs silently with his pointy snoot in your crotch, beseeching you with liquid eyes and your soft conscience, and the other one, a supreme opportunist who will wait until the first one succeeds in getting you to give him your fish skin, knowing she’s next ).

I’m really proficient at drop in company and spontaneous dining, it gets me away from painting – :-)
Who wants to stay the night?

Tysdaddy, whew, I think I can do it because by mere association, whatever you hang on a castle wall in the anteroom, looks good just by virtue of it being there.
I’d have a harder time being represented in a RV.
    Thanks for the kind words.

  3. Oh, and PS- just look at how you made even a photograph of paints already look like a painting!!!!
I’m gearing up for the Coakley Biannale!

  4. You got off easy for $26 for all those paints. Just wait until you get a bit more proficient. The tubes will be costing you $26 each for artist quality paints.

As for the tomatoes, I tie little brown paper bags over them when they start to fruit so I don’t have to spray any pesticides. Is that a tomato behind the paint?

    Home grown tomatoes…. mmmmmmm!

For you North Americans out there, thinking about dropping in for dinner at Bonnie’s place, I can recommend the Virgin Islands (St Croix is one of them).

I really loved the skin diving at St Johns back in the late 1970s, some of the clearest water I’ve ever seen and there were fish everywhere.
