Fried Dough

Pawtucket, Rhode Island loves its fried dough. My grand niece and nephew did too.

She went so far as to say if she could finish it, the PawSox would win.

I had fried dough of another kind at the souvenir shop.

They were selling a jersey that cost 350 dollars.

“That’s the one I want, Pappy, ” my nephew pointed to the jersey.

“Really? How about this one?” I showed him a normal T shirt with a logo on it.

“No,” he said. “I want one with the names on the back.”

“Really,” I said. “Well, Pappy, is going to have to rob a bank to buy it and then I’ll be the one wearing a shirt with my name on the back. How about this hat? ”

It was her first baseball game and taste of fried dough and even though she didn’t finish it, the Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Rochester Red Wings 9-1.

So far– day and a half into a three day weekend, I have not robbed a bank. However, today is the Southwick Zoo, elephant and camel rides and Bengal tiger cubs, and tomorrow, Boston awaits.

  1. Phew that piece of dough is as big as that cutie pie’s head! Have never seen such a thing in my life, looks like absolute heaven all on its own never mind the fun you’ve had! Careful of those camels, they like licking your face if you have had anything sweet to eat – bad experience in the Saudi desert once (perhaps it was just mean I am kinda weird looking, perhaps they thought I was its mate… what can you do *shrug*)

Have fun today hun dang wish I was there!

  3. Fried Dough! I was at a fair yesterday and almost bought some myself. Always a favorite summer-time treat. The photo is perfect.

Sounds like your visit from the grands is going swimmingly. I comment your ability to walk away from the $350 jersey. I wouldn’t have been able to buy it, but I’d have suffered much anguish over it before coming around to the perfectly sensible conclusion that it’s hideously overpriced!

  4. Love fried dough. We always called them “elephant ears.” Perhaps that’s not PC these days . . . !

My son and I went to a progressive music festival last weekend, and they had a Knicks basketball jersey with our favorite drummer’s name embroidered on the back. $175. We opted for the $35 tour shirt.

    Keep having fun!

  5. I love fried dough if it is covered in cinnamon sugar. In Portland, OR they call it Elephant Ears. In California they call it Indian Fry bread. What ever its at least 2 million callories per bite and worth every single one. Why waste it on the cardboard crap they tell you is healthy from Panera huh?? LOL!!!

    Go Pat Go…!!

Remember… Your TRUE friends aren’t the ones who would go to jail with you for helping you get away from murder…. They are the ones who would show up with shovels to help hide the body! I have the getaway car all ready and gassed up… Ill be checking the 11 O’Clock news just in case!

  6. Pomeroy, It takes a special man to love Pawtucket. But, then, I read on your blog that you are not content with directional signals which blink “left” and “right”, you want to have blinkers for “up” and “down” as well. So, I guess I already knew you were a special kinda guy!

To Razz: I took my Lipitor as they ate the fried dough and I ate a hot dog.

Amber: Nice to know someone’s watching the police blotter.

Tysdaddy and Girlgriot, Sanity, Turkish Prawn, PlanetRoss: enjoyed your best wishes over the weekend. At the zoo store, the request came in for a stuffed dog (there are no dogs at the zoo mind you) that cost $150. Pleading, big eyes, “This is all I want in the whole world. It’s what I’ve always wanted in the whole world.” Well, I said, it’s good to know what to want in life, but for now this little stuffed African parrot with the authentic bird call for $12.95 is what the whole wide world is giving you.

  7. w1kkp: you are mistaken; I’m the one who wants “up and down” blinkers on my van.
I’ve never had this fried dough; I feel deprived :(

  8. I’m gettin’ my special guys mixed up? Jeesh, I’m sorry. But, seriously, what a nice problem for an ol’girl to have! And you are a special guy who hasn’t asked me to buy them a $150 dollar dog or a $350 dollar shirt, too! If I could have a blogroll page on this Monotone template (which I cannot but I hope they’ll fix that in future), you’d be on it. Up and down blinkers on your van, people. Who else do you know wanting or needin’ that?? Read about it on planetross.wordpress.com
