I’m going into Boston today to meet an old friend. We go to a bakery where sticky buns are famous, then to the Institute of Contemporary Art a short walk away, and on to lunch at The Barking Crab, yet another short stroll.
That’s not enough exercise to work off that sticky bun and crab cakes and chowder, but I do plan to play in traffic at some point in the trip. This shot is from my last visit when school buses were my object of affection.
School is out this week (wheeee!) across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and if you’d like to feel like that proverbial skunk at the lawn party bring up extending the school year. O, sweet.
Watch the dandelions fly.
The charms (and educational value) of extending the school year six weeks is right up there with talking to a landscaper about my love of dandelions.
If you voice these opinion you risk getting run over by the final run of “Local Motion” or slivered by a demon weed-whacker.

The other week I got the shock of my life when I saw some of Louis CK’s shtick on youtube. I was amazed to see someone making a living out of how I think. He’s even got red hair!
By the way extending school holidays is just a way for the government to save money.
Oh, Razz…I don’t think you’ve missed out on much of life’s joys and pleasures so don’t turn your head from the joy meter with kids! Maybe you just haven’t met the right ones! And, I’m not saying you have to have them to enjoy them, either. Louis CK makes me laugh out loud!! But, I’m not sure I’d like to be married to him. So, if you are thinking like CK, then I’m thinking your wife is approaching sainthood. Your comments about commenting school holidays makes me think that the US and Australia are very different or else If you were a US citizen you’d talking grassy knoll conspiracies, too! C’mon..this is an idea that has at least some merit, other than saving the government money! In this country, it would cost more money.
I wish I was with you !! Can you and the “old” friend meet again this summer with when another “old” friend can join along?

wonderfully well put, coming from a family of teachers, it rings a familiar bell, extending the school year? in the middle of all kinds of fund cuts for the arts? and the general lowering of the bar why not heap some sumo wrestler on it so it’ll finally crash to the ground…whats this world coming to…..

“The Barking Crab” sounds like a very good restaurant.
I always forget which one is Boston Clam Chowder: is it the red one or the cream colored one.
I’m the same way about short and spare ribs. I always forget which are beef and which are chicken. hee hee!
Ross, it is white chowder, as in cream base here in New England. You are a total dweeb on the other!
The red one (my fav) is Manhattan Clam Chowder.

I really want to cook well, Razz…but, it doesn’t always work out. I’m infamous for not following recipes exactly and odd things happen when you don’t know what you are doing and substitute things with a wave of the hand, like oh, yeah, this would be alright!
But, clam chowder I have perfected. At least, the last two batches! If you ever come To Boston, I’ll do the chowder but you are going to be ensnared to do the rest of the meaL. I’M NO FOOL. Your food looks delicious!
